A recap of the worst air crashes in civilian aviation since the turn of the century
November 17, 2013: A Boeing 737 crashes in the Russian city of Kazan. All 50 people on board are killed.
November 30, 2013: A Mozambique Airlines plane crashes on its way to Angola, killing all 34 people on board.
January 29, 2013: A passenger plane crashes in Kazakhstan\’s capital of Almaty during foggy conditions. All 21 people on board are killed.
June 3, 2012: A passenger plane operated by Nigeria\’s privately owned carrier, Dana Air, crashes into a building near Lagos\’ Murtala Muhammed Airport, killing all 147 passengers.
May 9, 2012: A brand new Russian Superjet 100 plane goes missing just south of Jakarta. A rescue team finds no survivors among the 45 people on board, but does locate several bodies the day after the crash.
A Pakistani Boeing 737, operated by Bhoja Air, crashes while approaching Islamabad in bad weather conditions with 127 passengers on board. There are no survivors on 20th April, 2012
April 12, 2012: UTair airlines ATR 72 crashes and bursts into flames in Siberia, killing 31 people. Thirteen survive, but one person later dies in hospital. The investigative committee discovers that the aircraft has not had a serious technical check since 2010.
September 7, 2011: The Yak-42 passenger plane crashed near Yaroslavl,, Russia killing 43 passenger and only two servived. The plane was carrying member of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavi ice hockey team to the Belarus capital minsk and many international players were among the dead.
July 11, 2011: In Siberia, an Antonov-24 belonging to the Angara airline is carrying 35 people between Tomsk and Surgut when an engine catches fire, Five people were killed and 30 were injured.
May 18, 2011: A Saab 340A passenger plane crashed 20km north of Prahuanjyeu, Argentina, The 19 passengers and three air crew member on board are all dead.
2010 December: A Tara Air De Havilland Canada DHC-6 crashed into a Mountain of Nepal en route to Kathmandu, killing all 22 people on aboard.
November 4, 2010: An Aerocarribbean ATR-7-21 aircraft crashes into mountainous terrain in Cuba, killing all 68 people on board.
September 2010: A Canviasa Airlines ATR-42-320 carrying 51 people crashes into a steel foundry storage yard, killing 17 of those on broad.
Auguest 25, 2010: A filair-operated aircraft crashes 2 km from the airstrip at Bandundu, Democratic Republic of Congo, after a [passenger brought abroad a crocodile hidden in a sports bag. The animal escaped, causing panic among the passengers, who all rushed to one end of the plane, causing an imbalance, Of the 21 people on board and just one survived.
August 24, 2010: a Chinese passenger plane overshoots the runway in Yichun, China, brusting into flames, Killing 49 people out of 96.
July 2010: Airblue, Airbus A321 passenger jet crashed into the margalla Hills near Islamabd, Pakistan, while attempting to land, killing all 152 people.
May 2010: An Air India Boeing 737-800 crashes after overshooting the run way in mangalore in southern India, 158 were killed.
April 2010: Tupolev 154 creshed in dense fog while trying to reach Smolensk airport in Russia, killing 96 people
November 5, 2010: A chartered Beechcraft aircraft carrying Italian oil company personnel suffers an engine failure shortly after takeoff from Karachi, Pakistan and crashes into a residential neighbourhood when attempting to make an emergency landing. All 21 people on board are killed.
June 2009: An Air France Airbus A330 runs into thunderstorms over the Atlantic and disappears, with 228 people on board.
June 2009: An Airbus A310-300 Jet from Yemen carrying 153 people crashes into the Indian Ocean off the Comoros, leaving only one survivor.
January 2008: A Polish Casa military transport plane crashes in the north-west of the country, killing 20 people, many of whom were officials who had attended an air safety conference.
December 2005: At least 116 people are killed when an Iranian military plane crashes into a block of flats in Tehran.
August 2005: A Helios Airways flight from Cyprus to Prague, carrying 121 people, crashes north of Marathon and Varnavas in Greece, after the cabin pressure falls. All on board are killed.
February 2003: An Iranian Revolutionary Guard military plane crashes into a mountain, leaving 275 dead.
January 2003: A Turkish Airlines plane crashes while landing at Diyarbakir, killing 75 people on board.
May 2002: A China Airlines Boeing 747 breaks apart in mid-air and crashes into the Taiwan Strait, killing 225 people.
October 2001: A Scandinavian Airlines System jet collides with a small plane in heavy fog at Milan\’s Linate airport in Italy, killing 118 people.
September 2001: Al-Qaeda fighters hijack four US passenger planes, flying two of them into the twin towers of the World Trade Centre and another into the Pentagon. The fourth crashes into a field near Pittsburgh. More than 2,900 people are killed.
July 2000: An Air France Concorde, headed for New York, crashes into a hotel outside Paris shortly after takeoff. The death toll was 113, including four people on the ground.
