International Film Fest in Kathmandu From Jan 27

A five days international film festival is being organized in Kathmandu starting on January 27.
The festival to be organized by Nepal Film Society will be held at the Russion Cultural centre in Kamal Pokharai, Kathmandu where a total of 10 films from Nepal, India, South Korea, Spain, Israel, France, Norway, South Africa and Russia will be screened.
Speaking at a press conference held in the Capital on Monday, Society Chairman Krishna Malla said the aim of the festival was promote Nepal as place for international film festival and publicize Nepali films in the international communities.
Nepali film ‘Jhola’ based on now obsolete sati system on ancient Nepal would be shown on the first day of the festival. Other important films from the participating countries would be screebned during the festival during which two films would be shown every day.
Sati system used to be a Hindu custom in the ancient times during which the widow used to self immolate on her dead husband’s pyre.
During his premiership, former Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher had abolished sati system from Nepal.
The movie depends on a book noted by litterateur Krishna Dharabasi.
