Stating that high-rise buildings coming up around Janaki Temple are blighting the view of the century’s old Hindu Pilgrimage destination, Janakpur municipality on Wednesday decided to prohibit the construction of buildings that might detract from this majestic Hindu heritage site. As per the decision taken by the municipality and endorsed by local political parties, people around the area cannot build more than three stories high. The Local authority sprang in to action after the heritage site started to disappear in the midst of an ever growing concrete jungle of high-rises.
The municipality will not allow the construction of buildings in the temple area that are more than 31 feet tall. According to Jaganath Lamichhane, Executive officer at the municipality, the design approval process for building constructions around the temple area would be made stricter to check tall structures that will overshadow the temple popularly known as Naulakha Mandir. The meeting organized by local political parties’ leadership also agreed to begin widening the roads in the municipal region.
The Roads, which are hardly 14 feet wide now, will be made as wide as 29 feet, according to the municipality. The decisions of the meeting are to be endorsed by the city council which is scheduled to convene on Friday.
