Guwahati to Host Tibetan Festival in February

Guwahati, the largest city in India’s North-eastern state of Assam is set to host a five day Festival of Tibetan Art and Culture at the kalakshetra from 2-6 February. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is Scheduled to bless the festival during his visit to the city, Shri Pema Khandu, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism and Rural Works Development, Government of Arunachal Pardesh and Chairman of the Organizing Committee and dignitaries from the state of Arunachal and Assam will also accompany His Holiness during the Visit.
The closing ceremony of the event will be graced by Sikyoung Dr. Lobsang Sangay the democratically elected political leader of Tibet. The festival will showcase a photo exhibition titled “Tibet-A long look homeward”, traditional Tibetan dance performed by the Tibetan institute of performing Art, Documentry Films and Talks Seminars by noted speakers including Prof. samdhong Rinpoche, Former Kalon of centre Tibetan administration.
“Visitors can be part of a unique experience-one that will leave a lasting impression in their minds about the beauty and the sheer magic of Tibetan culture” Said Mr. Karma Yeshi, Tibetan parliamentarian and member of the organizing committee of the festival. “Through this Festival, we hope to bring Tibet closer to the minds of the people of the northeast including the Assamese people.
It is great way of sharing the Buddhist culture and tradition with the people of the northeastern states and also a wonderful way to build a lasting friendship with our brothers and sisters from the northeast” He added Visitors can enjoy Tibetan traditional Thanka Paintings being drawn by Tibetan artists, savor Tibetan cuisine, and Watch monks create sand Mandalas, Butter sculpture and Tibetan woodcraft. They can also buy traditional Tibetan handicraft products made by Tibetan refuses.
