Govt Preparing Ten Year Tourism Strategy Plan

Foreign assistance is likely to be attracted in tourism sector thanks to the Ten Year Tourism Strategy Plan being prepared by the government.
Though the nation is receiving billions of foreign assistance every year, the tourism sector remains out of coverage of such aid in absence of a tourism plan of the government
Donor agencies in general, pour their aid money in poverty alleviating program based on government’s long term plan and program.
Formulation long term plan and short term action plan will open the door for attracting f Foreign assistance in the tourism sector.
As the government has reached at the final stage of formulating the Ten Year Tourism Strartegy Plan and Five Year Tourism Action Plan, the donor agencies have shown their interests to provide assistance in this sector, said Keshab Prasad Bimali, under secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Bimali, who is also co-spokesperson of the ministry informed that the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), German have shown their interests to provide assistance in tourism sector.
Donor agencies have realized that assistance in tourism sector could be fruitful for poverty alleviation, he mentioned.
Donors have also shown their interests to organize a donors conference for mobilizing assistance in tourism sector, he informed.
As per the Bimali, the United Nations World tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has submitted the final draft of a strategy plan and action plan to the tourism ministry and the draft has been forwarded to concerned government and private sector agencies for their comment before giving them final shape.
UNWTO< in coordination of SNV helped the government to prepare the draft of the Ten Year tourism Plan and Five Year Action plan.
He said the both of the plans will be finalize by the end of current year 2013/14 and will be implemented from next fiscal.
The tourism plan is expect to give a much needed boost to tourism. Though a tourism master plan had been formulated in 1972 and was reviewed in 1984, the plan was not implemented properly.
